Pocket Guide to Alaska Trees, Miscellaneous Publication No. 55, was published by the U.S. Department of Agriculture in 1929 and authored by Raymond F. Taylor and Elbert L. Little, Jr. — a genuine government field guide from the early days of American forestry science, designed to help identify tree species across the Alaska territory. This is a piece of authentic scientific and governmental publishing history, decades before Alaska achieved statehood.
The fold-out map is fully intact, a wonderful survival for a 95-year-old field guide that was designed to be carried and used outdoors. Elbert L. Little, Jr. went on to become one of the most significant American dendrologists of the 20th century, adding further historical interest to this early work.
Good antique condition. Ships from Altadena, CA.
